Twentynine Palms carjacking suspect discovered to be a wanted felon

The suspect in a carjacking in Twentynine Palms was found to be a wanted felon in possession of a firearm. 

On Monday (March 2) at around 3:30 a.m. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a carjacking in the 72100 block of Sunnyvale Drive in Twentynine Palms. The victim told deputies he was sitting in his vehicle when the suspect opened the driver’s door, beat the victim, and demanded the keys. Deputies say the victim turned over the keys to the suspect, who fled in the vehicle. Deputies identified the suspect as Brandon Koenig, a 33 year-old resident of Twentynine Palms, who is a convicted felon and the subject of an active warrant in Orange County.  They say they could not locate him or the vehicle.

Later on Monday at around 3:15 p.m., deputies located Koenig in a home in the 74500 block of Twilight Drive in Twentynine Palms. Deputies say they arrived at the home and ordered everyone outside. Koenig was located at the home and taken into custody. During a search of the home, deputies say they located a firearm. Deputies did not clarify whether they located the stolen car.

Brandon Koenig was arrested on suspicion of carjacking, being a felon in possession of a weapon, violating parole, and his active warrant. He is being held at the West Valley Detention Center without bail.
