A Twentynine Palms man and convicted drug user was arrested Wednesday after he was found in possession of a firearm. According to a Sheriff’s report, deputies were called to Bucklin Park in Twentynine Palms about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday because a man was seen beating up a woman. The man and the woman were not there when deputies arrived but they later found them in an apartment on Oasis and Cactus. Deputies found a loaded firearm in the waistband of the man, later identified as Damon Weisend, 21; the woman, who had possibly been assaulted, was uncooperative with deputies. Deputies also found drugs. When deputies attempted to book Weisend into the Morongo Basin Jail, he struggled and resisted arrest. After subduing him, deputies then took him to Hi-Desert Medical Center to be checked out before booking him into West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of being in possession of a controlled substance and possession of a firearm, with his bail set at $60,000.
