Troy Reynolds sentenced to 4 years in prison

On Wednesday morning (5/6), Troy Reynolds was sentenced to four years in state prison for his role in the hit-and-run collision that killed sixteen-year-old Joshua Barreras.

Reynolds was accused of striking the victim with a vehicle and fleeing the scene on the evening of January 26, 2024. Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Deputies found Barreras lying in the center median of Twentynine Palms Highway, and he died from his injuries later that night. After a two-week investigation, detectives identified Reynolds as the suspect, and he turned himself in to the Joshua Tree Courthouse on February 27, 2024.

A jury trial in March of this year resulted in Reynolds’ conviction of Felony Hit and Run Resulting in Permanent Injury or Death. The jury also found two aggravating factors to be true: that Reynolds occupied a position of leadership or induced others to participate in the crime, and that the manner in which the crime was carried out indicated sophistication or professionalism.
