Three people found in a stolen rental vehicle in Twentynine Palms by Sheriff’s deputies Sunday afternoon were arrested on various charges. About 3:40 p.m., a deputy stopped a Mazda near Mesquite Springs Road and Two Mile Road in Twentynine Palms. The Mazda was a rental that had not been returned within five days of its scheduled return date, and had subsequently been reported stolen. The driver, Damonte Whitefield, 35, of Yucca Valley, was arrested for investigation of embezzling a vehicle. Lillie Tryon, 36, of Twentynine Palms, was arrested for investigation of identity theft. They were booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with their bail set at $50,000 each. The third person was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of violating the terms of his parole.
