STARTING A BAND

An old joke goes: “How do I get to Carnegie Hall?” Answer: “Practice, practice, practice.” ROP Broadcasting Student Andrea Nicholson says the same holds true for success on the local music scene…

Ever wonder what it takes to become a successful local band? Lucky you! We’re here with my friend Eli who is the lead guitar and vocal for 29 palms local band called “Leather Pie”, he will tell us how he and his pals got from the garage to the stage.

Q1- How do you choose your position in the band? Since I already play the guitar and we play at my house, that pretty much dictates my position.

Q2- How do you find the other band members? My band members are my friends I’ve been playing with a long time, so it’s an obvious choice.

Q3- Who composes your music? We collaborate. Sometimes Aaron the drummer has an idea and we work off that and jam it, or vice versa. Or we have a bass player now and he’ll have an idea. It’s a group effort.

Q4- How do you get from the garage to the stage? Practice. Need a lot of diligence and practice.
