Sheriff’s H.O.P.E. team conduct outreach to unhoused in Morongo Basin

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department conducted outreach to the Morongo Basin’s unhoused community on Friday (January 9).
The Sheriff’s Community Service & Reentry Division’s Homeless Outreach Proactive Enforcement Team (H.O.P.E.), in collaboration with the Department of Aging and Adult Services, conducted “Operation Shelter Me” throughout the day. The connected unhoused people with housing, medical, and mental health services.
On Friday, the H.O.P.E. Team focused on individuals with significant mental illnesses to link them with restorative mental health pathways. They report contacting 34 total people and referring 16 of them to assistance programs. Two people were connected with local service providers. They also say they arrested seven people for active criminal warrants, and one additional person was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance.
