SECOND ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER STAND-OFF IN DESERT HOT SPRINGS

Z107.7 News has learned that a Desert Hot Springs man wanted for an attempted armed robbery in Yucca Valley Tuesday night was arrested after an hours-long stand-off in Desert Hot Springs Friday afternoon. Desert Hot Springs police officers on patrol received a tip about 1:18 p.m. Friday that Odell Shidie, 21, was hiding in an office at a car wash at Hacienda and Palm Drive in Desert Hot Springs. Police called in a Special Weapons and Tactics team, helicopter, and armored personnel vehicles; Shidie eventually came out on his own about 5 p.m. Odell Shidie was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping to commit robbery, armed robbery, and conspiracy to commit a crime, booked into the West Valley Detention Center, with his bail set at $1 million. He also has a no-bail warrant in Riverside County for burglary.

About 7 p.m. Tuesday, Anthony Kamakeeaina, 19, and Shidie went to the Triangle Liquor Store in Yucca Valley, confronted two employees who were outside and forced them into the store at gunpoint. Shidie demanded the clerks give him money from the register, and then shot his gun into the floor. A fight broke out between the clerks and the robbers before Kamakeeaina and Shidie fled in a silver Nissan. A Morongo Basin Sheriff’s detective saw Anthony Kamakeeaina driving his car Wednesday and arrested him for investigation of kidnapping to commit robbery without incident. He was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with his bail set at $250,000.
