Correction: SB County Board of Supervisors meets Tuesday (9/9)

Correction: The proposed expanded airspace is only on the consent agenda and isn’t expected to receive discussion from the Board of Supervisors, as our previous headline stated. Public comment periods are available for residents to discuss anything on the consent agenda, as well as non-agenda items.

The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors will meet on Tuesday morning (September 9) in regular session.

The Board is expected to receive comments on the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Centers proposed establishment of a Special Use Airspace. Comments will be received and filed from the San Bernardino County Airports Advisory Commission. Public comments on the base’s proposed airspace regulation are open until September 15.

That airspace above and around the base is known as “Special Use Airspace” (SUA) which is a designation that allows for the airspace to be marked off for no-fly zones, restricted areas and other military operations.

The proposed action is to make SUA considerations more permanent in the Twentynine Palms area. Marine officials say that will increase training efficiency and overall safety of the airspace.

As part of the plan, the overall area for airspace restrictions would increase.

The meeting is open to the public, and begins at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning at the Covington Chambers of the Board of Supervisors located at the County Government Center at 385 North Arrowhead Ave in San Bernardino.
