A Riverside man was arrested by Yucca Valley deputies following a 35-mile high-speed chase early Saturday morning. Deputies tried to make a traffic stop on a vehicle on Old Woman Springs Road near Hillcrest Drive in Yucca Valley about 3:30 a.m. The driver, later identified as Samuel Deckard, 19, failed to yield and sped off northbound on OWS at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour. Lucerne Valley deputies set up a spike strip on Old Woman Springs Road near Oakdale Avenue in Lucerne Valley. The spike strip was successful and disabled Deckard’s vehicle. Deckard was taken in to custody by Yucca Valley deputies without further incident. Deputies located a handgun, ammunition, and a large capacity magazine located inside Deckard’s vehicle; Deckard is a convicted felon and on probation. Samuel Deckard was arrested for investigation of reckless evading of a peace officer and being a felon in possession of a firerm; booked into the West Valley Detention Center with his bail set at $100,000.

Following an arrest for felony evading Saturday, August 8, deputies found a handgun, ammunition, and a large capacity magazine located inside of a vehicle driven by Samuel Deckard.
