Red Dog Saloon celebrates five years in Pioneertown
Originally built in 1946 in the center of Pioneertown’s Mane Street, the Red Dog Saloon reopened in 2020. Red Dog is known for their Mexican inspired food and cocktails and is part of the restaurant group that now owns the Pioneertown Hotel and the Copper Room in Yucca Valley.
When Red Dog Saloon first opened in 2020, we were six months into the Covid 19 pandemic. Quarantines had loosened slightly, and Red Dog Saloon was serving food and drinks through a small window to be eaten outside only.
Z107.7 DJ Kim used to work at Red Dog, ” I was there for a couple years. I started there during COVID. It was exciting because I was already a huge fan of that place and had already been there several times and just loved the whole experience and vibe. I ended up just falling in love with everyone who worked there.”
I had just moved to Yucca Valley from Joshua Tree, and on a snowy January morning, some friends and I decided to walk from my house to check out Red Dog for the first time. We literally walked six or seven hours through the snow and when we sat down for a margarita, we were so thrilled to be at such a cool place.
I remember thinking to myself, “I can’t wait for the pandemic to end so that I can bring all my friends here.” It has since become a mainstay for outdoor brunches.
Five years later, Red Dog Saloon is throwing an anniversary shindig starting Saturday (August 30) at 12:30 p.m. Z107.7 reporter Gabriel Hart’s new band, Hotel Mercy, is playing what they are calling a “marathon” two hour set from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., that they say will include fun covers. Expect Los Poncho Tones, Lisa Lynn & the Broken, Hallelujahs, Led Necks, and a dunk tank.
