Passenger allegedly grabs steering wheel and crashes into parked car and Twentynine Palms home

A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly grabbing the steering wheel of a truck and veering into a parked car.

On Wednesday (July 22) at around 3:00 p.m. California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to a collision on Bluegrass Avenue near Valle Vista Avenue in Twentynine Palms. Preliminary information provided by the CHP says that Nathan Utley, 41, was a passenger in a black pick-up truck being driven by a former romantic partner. The CHP says that Utley grabbed the steering wheel of the vehicle, causing the pick-up to crash into a parked vehicle. The CHP says that the parked vehicle was pushed into a home on Bluegrass Avenue.

At least one person was transported to the Hi-Desert Medical Center for a complaint of pain. The CHP did not immediately respond to a request for additional details.

Nathan Utley was taken into custody by CHP officers at the scene. He was arrested for investigation into two charges of attempted murder, domestic violence, vandalism, and reckless driving. He is being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $1,000,000 bail.
