The Morongo Valley CSD Board met last night. Additional taxes, super majority, and a lease were all om the agenda. Reporter Mike Lipsitz was at that meeting and files this report…
At last night’s meeting of the Morongo Valley Community Services District, directors formed an ad hoc committee to investigate a “special tax” to supplement existing revenue streams. General Manager Donna Munoz suggested that without regular additional revenue, Morongo Valley would be seriously vulnerable to a county take-over of fire service, such as is happening in Twentynine Palms. On another matter, directors retracted a policy requiring a “super majority” vote for board policy changes; that move on advice of legal counsel, Director Osborne opposed. And finally, following an eight-year effort, the district was able to secure and adopt a lease for property adjacent to Covington Park where the ball fields and maintenance yard are located. The lease covers a 10-year term at $50 per month, up from $1 per year owing to new county policy.
