MBTA DEPLOYS FIRST IN NATION ELECTRIC E-TRANSIT

Our own local bus system, the MBTA set new standards this week when they become the first public transit agency in the country to deploy an electric E-Transit vehicle. The new type of bus is a Ford fully electrified E-Transit Van, converted to transit use. The vehicle seats 7 passengers plus the Driver and is ADA capable, equipped with a rear-mounted wheelchair lift. MBTA General Manager Cheri Holsclaw stated. “This is the first small action taken by MBTA to prepare for the upcoming state mandates to eventually make all transit vehicles fully electrified. The purpose of this acquisition is for us to learn and identify what challenges we will have in operating and maintaining these new types of vehicles before their adoption is more widespread.” The vehicle and charging system were purchased with a State Grant.

Seen from left to right are MBTA Board Members Merl Abel, Ben Sasnett, Jeff Drozd, Karmolette O’Gilvie, Ellen Jackman McArthur Wright welcoming the new vehicle to MBTA’s fleet.

Please call the MBTA at (760)366-2986 if you have any other questions.
