After receiving reports Sunday morning (September 25) of an armed man on a quad runner chasing down a car, the County Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested a suspect: a convicted felon from Twentynine Palms.
At around 8:45 a.m., a 36 year-old Joshua Tree man, driving near the intersection of Mojave Rd and White Sands Dr, dialed 911 from his cellular phone and reported that a man with a gun was chasing him on a quad. The Joshua Tree man told Sheriffs that the driver of the quad at one point tried to block the road and pointed a gun at him. The Sheriff reports that the Joshua Tree man was able to lose his pursuer, and that no shots were fired.
The Joshua Tree man met Deputies near the 77400 block of Amboy Rd, where, with the assistance of the Sheriff’s Aviation Division, they were able to locate the suspected driver of the quad, Pejman Elahi, a 39 year-old resident of Twentynine Palms, who is a convicted felon.
Deputies served a search warrant at Elahi’s residence and found firearms, including a short-barreled AR-15 assault rifle, along with ammunition, ammunition magazines, drugs, and drug paraphernalia. Pejman Elahi was arrested for investigation into Assault with a Deadly Weapon and being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and booked into the Morongo Basin Jail on $50,000 bail.
