Man allegedly sets fire to own home, arrested after release from hospital for burns

A Morongo Valley man was hospitalized and arrested after allegedly starting a fire in his own home.

On Tuesday (January 6) at around 4:00 p.m., several neighbors called 911 to report a fire in the 51000 block of Aspen Drive in Morongo Valley. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies and Morongo Valley Fire crews responded to the scene.

The owner of the home, identified as Ronald Svidergol, 63, suffered from burns and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The Sheriff’s Department said that Svidergol started the fire. After he was released from the hospital deputies took him into custody. 

Ronald Svidergol was arrested on suspicion of causing a fire in an inhabited structure and violating parole. He is being held at the West Valley Detention Center without bail.
