A Landers man with a prior conviction for battery was arrested Thursday, accused of possessing a firearm. According to a Sheriff’s report, a deputy stopped a 2000 Ford Expedition about 5:45 p.m. on Dusty Mile Road, south of Linn Road in Landers, for a traffic violation. The deputy determined the passenger, Anthony Rios, 29, had a Springfield XD 9mm handgun; in July, Rios was convicted of battery against a cohabitant and so he is prohibited from owning or possessing firearms for 10 years. Anthony Rios was arrested for investigation of violating the 10-year firearm prohibition, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $50,000.
