Landers house fire claims one victim, man arrested nearby for unrelated warrant

One person is under arrest after firefighters arrived at a house fire in Landers and found a body. According to San Bernardino County Fire, the proximity of the two incidents don’t suggest a correlation.
At around 11:50 p.m. Thursday night (January 22), San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies and San Bernardino County Fire crews responded to a call of a fire near the intersection of Sunway Drive and Ripon Avenue in Landers.
San Bernardino County Fire says that a one-story single-family house was full-involved in fire by the time they arrived and a portion of the roof had collapsed before they were able to knock down the flames.
County Fire said that one adult male was found dead in the home. The cause of death has not yet been determined and it is unknown if the victim died in the fire. The name of the deceased has not yet been released by the Sheriff’s Coroner division. No one else was injured in the fire.
As of Friday morning (January 23) County Fire investigators are still on the scene. A representative from San Bernardino County Fire said that due to heavy damage, it may be difficult to determine the cause but it is not currently being investigated as suspicious.
A 24 year-old Twentynine Palms resident was arrested at the scene of the fire. County Fire says that Robert Moreno, 24, may have been a bystander at the fire. He was arrested at the scene for an outstanding warrant related to an alleged assault on October 24. He is being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $40,000 bail.
