Kids Dance and Art camp starts on Monday (6/22) in Landers

A dance company is holding a Children’s Summer Dance and Art Camp in Landers beginning this upcoming Monday. Reporter Annelies Kuiper dances in with the details, including a way you can get a delightful discount on the five-day camp.

The Twinkletoes Summer Dance and Art camp will run from June 22 thru 26 from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30p.m. at Belfield Hall Community Center in Landers. Children ages 5 thru 12 are welcome and the classes will be divided into two groups. Karen Gladis is the owner of the Twinkletoes Dance Company as well as the primary instructor. You may remember she choreographed the recent production of Cinderella at Theater 29, which was directed by our very own Gary Daigneault. The camp will blend dance, movement, visual arts, crafts and cooking. Campers will explore imagination and self-expression while gaining confidence through guided activities in a fun, supportive environment. There will be a performance created by the children on the last day of camp, which parents and well-wishers are invited to attend.

Here Karen explains: “We’re going to be doing ballet, modern dance, musical theater, and contemporary. And we are also going to be doing a cooking unit because they have a kitchen at the Landers Community Center. And we are going to be doing all kinds of different art projects. That’s something that my daughter is kind of spearheading. Her name is Penelope. And we do lots of things with found objects and craft things and also fine art projects as well. We really have fun with the art portion too. So it’s just as much dance and movement as it is art.”

The cost for the full week is $225 per child; $65 per day for part-timers. You can reserve your spot online at twinkletoesdancehidesert.com but if you call Karen at (818)395-3454 she will give you a special discount.

The Dance and Art Camp will run from June 22 thru 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Belfield Hall, 58380 Reche Road, just East of the Post Office in Landers. Children should wear comfortable clothing, bring a water bottle and a snack.
