Keep a Breast Foundation opens 2026 High Desert Collection in Pioneertown tonight (9/18)

The Keep a Breast Foundation presents its 2026 High Desert Collection this weekend in Pioneertown, with an opening reception tonight. In its second edition, the art exhibit features chest casts of thirty community members from throughout the Morongo Basin, each paired with a local artist to create one-of-a-kind pieces that celebrate art and conversations about breast health. The event was created by the nonprofit’s founder,  Shaney jo Darden, and curated by local artist Clair Case. Following the exhibit, the casts can be found displayed within participating businesses along Highway 62 throughout the month of October, which is also Breast Cancer Awareness Month and home to the Highway 62 Art Tours. The collection’s release also launches the Bucks for Boobies fundraising and awareness initiative, which partners with local businesses.

In a statement, Darden said, “The High Desert Collection isn’t about bringing art to the community. It’s about recognizing that the community already is the art.”

Founded in 2000, the Keep a Breast Foundation was created with the intent to highlight prevention and early detection as key elements of breast cancer awareness. The nonprofit is well known for its creative, youth-centric approach to advocacy, including its popular “i love boobies!” bracelets and its Keep a Breast application, an interactive, step-by-step guide to breast self-exams. The Keep A Breast Foundation is headquartered in Yucca Valley and has branches or affiliates throughout the United States, Mexico, Europe, and Africa. 

The 2026 High Desert Collection opens this weekend at the Likker Barn on the south end of Pioneertown’s Mane Street, across from the General Mercantile. The RSVP-required Opening Reception will be held tonight from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with the Public Exhibition running Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
