Joshua Tree National Park limits access to two trails through Winter and Spring

The Fortynine Palms Oasis trail and Cholla Cactus Garden trails will have limited access all Winter and Spring according to Joshua Tree National Park.
On Tuesday (1/6) the Park announced that the Fortynine Palms Oasis trail will be closed on weekdays so park staff can repair sections of the trail damaged by rain earlier this season. The trail will reopen on weekends.
The roughly three mile out-and-back trail is located right off Twentynine Palms Highway, and also can have summertime closures as it provides critical water resources to desert bighorn sheep.

Inside Joshua Tree National Park, the Cholla Cactus Garden will be fully-closed as the Park Staff work to improve conditions and accessibility for visitors. The elevated-path trail is popular for is accessibility and the multitude of cholla cactus spread throughout the trail and surrounding land.
Joshua Tree National park says they hope to fully reopen both trails in late spring of 2026.
You can check park conditions and closures on Joshua Tree National Park’s website, or on the NPS App.
