If you hear “bzzzzz bzz bzzz” while you are in Joshua National Park, just know that it means “I’m thirsty” in honeybee. During the dry desert summer, bees are on the hunt for water, so follow these tips: If you are allergic, carry appropriate medication; wear long-sleeved, sweat-wicking clothing, and keep all liquids tightly sealed. Follow all warning signs in the park and turn off your car air conditioner 5 minutes before parking, especially in areas with higher concentrations of bees, such as the Cholla Cactus Garden, Keys View, campgrounds, and Rattlesnake Canyon. Above all, do not swat at, chase, or antagonize the bees. Bee activity will subside in the cooler months if you need to replan your visit.
