Hit-and-run case from 2024 expected to proceed with trial on March 3

After two years of court proceedings, a jury trial will begin next week in the case of a fatal hit-and-run collision from 2024.
The People of the State of California vs. Troy Dean Reynolds returned to court yesterday afternoon (2/25) for a hearing before Judge Sarah Oliver.
Troy Reynolds is the primary suspect in a fatal hit-and-run collision from January 2024 that killed Yucca Valley teenager Joshua Barreras. District Attorney Jason Gueltzow was present for the prosecution, and Attorney James Rogan was present for the defense. Reynolds himself was not in attendance and was represented by his counsel.
Both attorneys had previously expressed optimism that a resolution would be reached in the case. However, a trial readiness hearing was held on Friday (February 20), during which the attorneys confirmed that the trial would indeed proceed. Judge Oliver scheduled the jury trial to begin Tuesday, March 3.
Troy Reynolds is charged with Felony Hit and Run Resulting in Permanent Injury or Death; he is currently out on $500,000 bail.
