History lovers wanted at 29 Palms Historical Society

Lovers of local history take note: The Twentynine Palms Historical Society needs volunteers to help with their exhibits and gift shop. Reporter Heather Clisby has details …

Since its’ founding in the spring of 1982, the Twentynine Palms Historical Society has been maintaining the Old Schoolhouse Museum and Gift Shop. The original one-room schoolhouse was key to the fledgling community and the education of the children of pioneer families, like the Bagleys and the Smiths. The Society now seeks volunteers for the Old Schoolhouse Museum in Twentynine Palms, site of the monthly “Old Schoolhouse Lecture Series,” to help at least one afternoon a month.

Volunteers, usually working in pairs, welcome visitors, lead tours, and facilitate gift shop purchases. Along with the adjoining exhibit space and gift shop, the buildings feature artifacts from Native American tribes, miners, homesteaders and local military history.

Potential volunteers should call 760-367-2366 or email [email protected].

The Twentynine Palms Historical Society and Old Schoolhouse Museum are located at 6760 National Park Drive.
