Highway 62 collision in Desert Hot Springs, killing Twentynine Palms man

A vehicle collision on Highway 62 at the bottom of the Morongo grade left a Twentynine Palms man dead.

On Wednesday (December 4) at around 11:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol responded to a two vehicle collision at 11:30 a.m. on State Route 62 near North Indian Canyon Drive in Desert Hot Springs.

The CHP said that a White Toyota Yaris driven by Delon Aras, a 69 year-old resident of Twentynine Palms, was driving westbound and down the grade toward the intersection of North Indian Canyon Drive. They say the light at the intersection was red, but the Yaris rear-ended a stopped Lincoln SUV.

Aras was killed in the collision, and pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP says it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.

The Lincoln was occupied by four passengers and only one female passenger in the Lincoln complained of pain at the scene of the crash.
