High-speed pursuit of suspected kidnapper in stolen vehicle ends with emergency air lift from Landers to Palm Springs
A kidnapping victim jumped out of a vehicle during a pursuit through Yucca Valley and Landers that ended with a collision.
On Sunday (July 26) at around 6:40 a.m., an automated license plate reader detected a stolen vehicle near the intersection of Twentynine Palms Highway and White Feather Road. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies attempted a traffic stop, but they say the driver initiated a high-speed pursuit. The Sheriff’s Department identified the driver was Rodney Frazier-Goodson, a 21 year-old resident of Twentynine Palms. They say Frazier-Goodson drove west on Twentynine Palms Hwy., then north on Old Woman Springs Road.
During the pursuit, deputies say Frazier-Goodson slowed the vehicle to allow a victim to exit. It is unknown if the victim was injured.
Deputies say Frazier-Goodson continued at high-speeds and drove into opposing lanes of traffic. They say they used an intervention technique to end the pursuit, during which Frazier-Goodson lost control of the vehicle and collided with a dirt embankment on Old Woman Springs Road near Boone Road in Landers. Deputies say that Frazier-Goodson was treated at the scene until he was air-lifted to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
Frazier-Goodson was convicted for assault in the stabbing of a teenager in 2024. He was most recently arrested on suspicion of violating parole on July 20.
Once released from the hospital, Rodney Frazier-Goodson is expected to be booked on suspicion of kidnapping, possession of a stolen vehicle, and evading law enforcement.
