The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning in effect from 11 a.m. this morning to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Temperatures are predicted to reach around 110 in Twentynine Palms and around 102 in Yucca Valley. The inside of a parked car can heat up to 150 degrees—within just 15 minutes. And, that’s with the windows open. This can be lethal—especially for children. Sadly, an average of 37 young lives are lost, each year, from being left unattended in an automobile; many cases involve kids being left in a car by mistake, and most victims are under two years old. Heatstroke-deaths are avoidable—if parents and caregivers are vigilant. A child’s body can heat up three- to five-times faster than that of an adult. So during this hot summer-season, parents and caregivers, never, ever leave your child alone in a car—even for a minute. The same goes for pets, don’t put the life of your pet in danger; leave them home.
