GARAGE HEAVILY DAMAGED IN JOSHUA TREE FIRE

A garage sustained heavy damage during a fire in Joshua Tree Tuesday afternoon. Firefighters were called to the 60800 block of Pueblo Trail in Joshua Tree at 1:36 p.m. by neighbors who said a garage was on fire with propane tanks exploding. Joshua Tree firefighters were first on the scene and found an attached two-car garage on fire with heavy smoke and flames. While waiting for back up crews to arrive, fire crews initiated a transitional response from an exterior attack to an interior one. When firefighters from Yucca Valley and Yucca Mesa arrived, they opened holes in the roof to limit the spread of the fire inside. The fire was knocked down in about 15 minutes. The garage suffered heavy damage but fire crews were able to limit the fire’s spread inside the home, and were able to keep flames from spreading to nearby vegetation and homes. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
