Following up on a report of a possible burglary in process, a Johnson Valley man was arrested early Thursday morning. According to a Sheriff’s report, deputies were called to the area of Grand View Road and Ocotillo Road in Johnson Valley about 3:30 a.m. for a report of suspicious suspects or a possible burglary in process. Deputy Clayton Brandt found a vehicle stuck in the sand on the property located at the intersection, with no one around. Sergeant Steve Wilson located two people walking on Ocotillo Road, about a mile east of the abandoned vehicle. Jonathan Turl, 40, and Kelli Landers, 39, told Wilson their vehicle became stuck at the intersection and they were walking home. However, both suspects gave conflicting stories about why they were out at 3:30 in the morning. Turl was found to have multiple live rounds of .22-caliber ammunition in his pocket, but no firearm was located on either Turl or Landers. In addition, a box of live ammunition was located inside their vehicle. During an investigation, deputies located a loaded semi-auto 22 caliber handgun behind an electric pole about 100 feet from where the couple was contacted on Ocotillo Road. The ammunition in the firearm matched the same caliber and make of ammunition found in Turl’s pocket. Turl was arrested for investigation of being a felon in possession of a loaded firearm and booked into the Morongo Basin jail in lieu of $50,000 bail. A report will be sent to the District Attorney’s Office for review on Landers for a complaint issued for felon in possession of ammunition.
