Father and son arrested for suspected sexual assault and witness intimidation in Landers

A father and son have been arrested for investigation into sexual assault, burglary, and witness intimidation after a Landers woman was sexually assaulted in her sleep.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department says that on March 2nd at 12:30 a.m., a victim reports that she was asleep in her locked bedroom at her home in Landers when a suspect, identified as Genaro Rizo, Sr, entered her bedroom and sexually assaulted the victim. Detectives investigating the incident say that Rizo’s son, Genaro Rizo, a 29 year-old resident of Corona, then threatened the victim if she reported the assault to authorities.

Detectives were able to apprehend both Rizo, Sr. and Rizo, Jr. on Sunday March 10. Rizo, Sr, was taken into custody at a home in the 7600 block of Inca Trail. 

Genaro Rizo, Sr, was arrested on suspicion of oral copulation with an unconscious person and burglary, and is being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $80,000 bail. Genaro Rizo, Jr, was arrested on suspicion of  making criminal threats and preventing a witness from testifying and has been released on bail.
