The suspect in the attempted murder of a 20 year-old woman in Twentynine Palms on March 1 was arrested Wednesday (March 12)

County records indicate that the suspect in the attempted murder, John Chavarria, 49, was arrested at 1:30 a.m. at a residence near the intersection of Kellogg Avenue and Sunrise Drive in Twentynine Palms.

On March 1 at approximately 9:38 p.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies say they were flagged down by a woman walking on Twentynine Palms Highway near Larrea Avenue in Twentynine Palms.  Deputies say the woman was suffering from several noticeable injuries and that she disclosed she was strangled during an altercation with a friend.

Deputies said that Chavarria and the victim were at a home in the 72600 block of Two Mile Road where the attack occurred. Deputies returned to the residence, but say Chavarria was gone. Deputies at the time asked for the public’s help in locating Chavarria. At the time of the attempted murder, Chavarria was on probation and had a felony warrant out for his arrest.

John Chavarria was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and an earlier warrant for being a felon in posession of a weapon and is being held at the West Valley Detention Center without bail.
