Early election results for California Direct Primaries

California voters weighed in on local elections and primaries on Tuesday (June 2), in our state’s Direct Primary Elections.

In most races, the two candidates with the highest vote-count will face off in November.

As of 5:00 a.m. this morning, with 100% of precincts at least partially reporting:

In Congressional District 25 which now includes Twentynine Palms., incumbent Congressional Representative Raul Ruiz received 58% of the vote. He will face off against Republican challenger Joe Males with 20.3% of the vote

In Congressional District 23 which includes the rest of the Morongo Basin,  incumbent Republican Jay Obernolte led the field with 58.6% of the vote. He will face off against Democratic challenger Tessa Lynn Hodge, who received 18.7%. 

California State Assembly District 47, which includes Morongo Valley, Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree National Park, and parts of the Coachella Valley and the Inland Empires, Incumbent Republican Greg Wallis received 49.5% of the vote. He will face Democratic Challenger Leila Namvar, who received 29.5% of the vote.

California State Assembly District 34, which includes Twentynine Palms, Wonder Valley, Landers, and Johnson Valley saw a full primary challenge as Incumbent Republican Tom Lackey did not seek reelection. Leading the race to represent the district is Republican Charles Frederick Hughes, who received 37.9% of the vote. He will face Democrat Randall Putz, who received 36.9% of the vote.

24 candidates are running to serve as California’s Governor. In the race for governor, Steve Hilton has 27.8% of the vote. Xavier Becerra has 25.4%. The two will face off directly in the November election.

San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus received 66% of the vote. His challenger, Joe Silva, received 34.28% of the vote.

Total voter turnout in San Bernardino County was 18.19%.
