Driver stuck in sand arrested for suspected DUI and child abuse

A 19 year-old was arrested on suspicion of DUI, child abuse, possession of a weapon, and resisting arrest after deputies responded to the suspect getting stuck in sand.

On Tuesday (November 11) at around 9:15 p.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a vehicle stuck in the sand near the intersection of Two Mile Road and Baileya Ave in Twentynine Palms.

Deputies say they arrived and contacted the driver Carter Perkins, 19. They say that Perkins was found to be under the influence of alcohol and there were two minors with him in the vehicle. They also located a firearm.

Deputies say Carter refused to exit the vehicle and kicked at deputies once he was detained. No injuries to officers or the suspect were reported.

Carter Perkins was arrested for investigation into DUI, child abuse, weapons charges, and resisting arrest.

He is being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $60,000 bail.
