Dr. Stone James resigns as Twentynine Palms City Manager

The City of Twentynine Palms announced that City Manager Dr. Stone James will step down. James submitted his resignation and provided 60 days of notice at a closed session special meeting of the Twentynine Palms City Council on Thursday morning (April 9.)

James has served as City Manager since March 2024. James has supported the creation and implementation of the City’s first long range strategic plan.

James shared that his decision to step down is driven by family considerations. He will be transitioning to a private sector opportunity in the Coachella Valley. He said, “This has been the most rewarding time of my career.”

The City Council will consider next steps for interim leadership and the recruitment of a new City Manager in the coming weeks. City operations and services will continue without interruption during the transition.
