Last night (January 18), the Yucca Valley Town Council approved bids for the design and geotechnical engineering for the planned aquatics and recreation center. Reporter Jef Harmatz attended the meeting and has a full rundown.
At last night’s regularly scheduled meeting, the council approved a $1.9 million professional service agreement with HMC Architects for design consultation services for the planned aquatics center. They also approved a $134,000 professional service agreement with LandMark Consultants for geotechnical engineering, testing and inspections services for the project. The aquatics center is expected to open in the spring of 2024. During the meeting, council members received a recap of the Yucca Valley Film Festival, which was considered to be a big success and had more than a thousand people attend digitally. Finally, the council received an update on state and county Covid-19 data, which shows a large spike in cases related to the omicron variant. Council members urged residents to get tested and vaccinated at the Community Center at Sportsman Park in Joshua Tree, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
