DESERT INSTITUTE NATIVE PLANT COOKING CLASS TODAY

Maybe you thought California native plants were just for saving water in your landscaping efforts, as they require little to no soil amendments or pesticides and support the local wildlife. But did you know you can cook with many native plants, as well? Hilary Sloane tells us moreā€¦

Cooking with Native Plants is a craft under revival. Hosted by the Joshua Tree National Park’s Desert Institute, Joshua Basin Water District’s recent guest, Wildcrafting Instructor Yanina Aldao, will guide you through a magical kitchen journey on July 22 at 4:30 p.m. Aldao will instruct you on sustainability and ethics in foraging and gathering native plants. The class includes recipes like adding a medicinal twist to your winter Hot Toddies, making your next favorite creosote-based hair rinse, and creating Vegan Mesquite Energy Bars for your next trail adventure.
