County approves $3.5 million for improvements to Sunburst Park in Joshua Tree

A contract for improvement work at Sunburst Park was approved at Tuesday’s (August 18) meeting of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors.

As part of their consent agenda, the Board of Supervisors approved a construction bid for approximately $3.5 million for improvements to Sunburst Park in Joshua Tree. The contract was awarded to Three Peaks Corp., a construction company based in Calimesa.

Consent Agenda items are typically voted as a group and without discussion from the Board or public comment, but Third District Supervisor Rowe made a special mention of the project.

“This morning, I would like to highlight item number 58 on our consent calendar. It is an item that will award a construction contract in the amount of three million to make improvements to the Sunburst Park, which is our community park in Joshua Tree. The project is fully funded by the Clean California local grant program and will include improvements like new playgrounds, accessible walkways, enhanced lighting, landscaping and outdoor fitness zones.”

The Clean California Local Grant Program is through the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) designed to fund improvements to parks, roads, transit centers, and tribal lands.

The construction proposal has a six month target date for completion.
