The Copper Mountain College Foundation recently received a donation of more than $51,000 to fund programs at the Student Success Center. The funds come with grateful, but bittersweet acknowledgment. Reporter Mike Lipsitz is here with the backstory…
The $51,644 was the remaining operational funds of the Morongo Basin Coalition for Adult Literacy. The non-profit organization voted to dissolve following a year-long COVID-19 related halt of operations and other extenuating circumstances. For nearly 40 years, their volunteers provided free, confidential reading, writing, and math tutoring to local adults. More recently they partnered with the CMC Student Success Center which provides free programs for high school equivalency diplomas, English as a Second Language, and other courses. A commemorative plaque has been installed at the Student Success Center honoring the work of the Coalition for Adult Literacy.
