The 49-dollar art sale event conducted by the Copper Mountain College Foundation on Saturday December 6 realized $3800 for the foundation, according to Foundation Executive Director Sandy Smith. When the door to the exhibit room was opened at 4:30, the crowd that filled the Ada Hatch Center filed in and started staking claims to the previously-unseen 5”x7” art works (mostly paintings) arrayed on one wall of the room. If you’re envisioning a mad scramble – it wasn’t. The wall was separated from the viewers by a cordoned-off 3-foot gap. When you saw something you had to have, you told an attendant, who removed a numbered tag from the work and gave it to you. You paid your $49 (plus tax) in an adjoining room, and returned with the receipt to collect your purchase. Only at that time did you learn the identity of the artist who created and donated the piece you bought. If you knew your local artists, and acted fast, you might have come away with a real find. Of the 140 donated pieces, 76 were sold, so some potential masterpieces are still available: call Cathy Allen at 760-366-3791 ext 0600 to learn more.
