Can’t escape the extreme heat at home? Head to cooling centers around the hi-desert
The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning for Thursday (July 23) that will remain in place until Monday night (July 27). They say that dangerously hot conditions are expected and temperatures could peak at 116 degrees in Twentynine Palms.
Joshua Tree
The Joshua Tree Library acts as a cooling center, they are open:

Twentynine Palms
The Twentynine Palms Senior Center operates as a cooling center most weekdays and is located at 6539 Adobe Road. For more information, you can call 760-361-1410.

Yucca Valley
Yucca Valley will be continuing their standard cooling protocols, offering Town offices are open during normal business hours with lobby areas to accommodate those wishing to get out of the heat. The Yucca Valley Community Center is open Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Hi-Desert Nature Museum is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Libraries in the Morongo Basin are all open as cooling centers during normal business hours, Monday through Thursday and Saturdays.

Landers Cooling Center Opens
In Landers, Belfield Hall announced that they will remain open as a Cooling Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily until the warning ends, The Belfield Hall Cooling Center is on Reche Road one block east of Landers Post Office.
Because Landers Cool Center relies on evaporative cooling it is not officially sanctioned by the County nor Southern California Electric.
Organized by the Landers Homestead Valley Association, Landers Cooling Center offers complementary cold drinks, free WIFI from Mojavewifi.com, admissibility of leashed pets, and free shuttle service when available. The costs of the program are entirely paid by the all-volunteer, nonprofit Landers Homestead Valley Association which receives no government assistance.
