The Animal Action League, which has been providing pet vaccinations and low-cost spaying and neutering services in the Morongo Basin for more than 30 years, has been receiving lots of calls and emails about when the low-cost spay-neuter service will reopen. Rebecca Havely says the organization has not yet set a date to reopen…
While the Animal Action League is eager to get back to its mission of spaying and neutering dogs and cats, it has no plans at this time to reopen due to the COVID-19 stay-at-home order. The clinic sees 50 to 100 people during each clinic, and opening up would increase the risk level of its staff. In addition, since spaying and neutering are considered elective procedures, all vet clinics have temporarily stopped offering these surgeries. And if the Animal Action League was to reopen, it would deplete its stock of personal protective gear with no guarantee of being able to get more. And finally, many of the organization’s staff fall into the “high risk” category. The organization realizes that it had a long waiting list before the shut down, and that being closed for months will make it even more difficult to catch up. It asks residents to be patient.
