Though we had a super moon in April, rain clouds blocked our view here in the Morongo Basin. Thankfully, we get another chance on Thursday, May 7, when the super moon returns. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details…

Lunar fans are in luck—the super moon returns. Rainy weather cancelled our chance in April but on Thursday, May 7, another super moon will rise in the east/southeast at 8:18 pm.

Not just any moon, the super moon occurs when it moves closest to the earth in its elliptical orbit during the full moon phase. This event is also called the “Full Flower Moon” which came from colonists and Algonquin tribes noted a time of rising temperatures and springtime blooms.

This will be the last super moon of 2020 so be sure to look up.
