79 year-old arrested for allegedly driving car into worker on closed road in Yucca Valley
An alleged road rage incident involving a sewer contractor in Yucca Valley led to the arrest of a 79 year-old man.
On Tuesday (July 21) at around noon, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of an assault near the intersection of Joshua Drive and Aster Avenue in Yucca Valley. The victim of the assault was a contractor working for the Hi-Desert Water District’s (HDWD) sewer project.
Deputies identified the suspect as William Dell, a 79 year-old resident of Yucca Valley. Deputies say Dell was irate with the victim over the road construction and having no access due to road barricades. They say Dell drove his vehicle into the victim. The HDWD said that the contractor was working in a closed road area, and that Dell did not obey road signs during the incident. The victim sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment. Deputies say the victim’s supervisor reported the assault to 911.
Approximately 30 minutes after deputies responded to the scene, they located Dell at a home in the 56000 block of Free Gold Drive in Yucca Valley, where he was taken into custody.
William Dell was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. He was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail and has since been released on bail.
The Hi-Desert Water District told Z107.7, “The safety of our employees, contractors, and the public is our highest priority. This incident serves as an important reminder that road closure signs and traffic control measures are in place to protect everyone working in or traveling near active work zones.”
