2 ARRESTED ON WEAPONS CHARGES IN 2 INCIDENTS

Two men were arrested Monday in separate incidents for being in possession of dangerous weapons. Just before 1:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol stopped a vehicle driven by James Gagnon, 40, of Yucca Valley near Highway 62 and Olympic in Joshua Tree. Gagnon is a felon on parole, and when the officer searched his car, he found ammunition. As a convicted felon, Gagnon is not allowed to own or be in possession of ammunition. James Gagnon was arrested for investigation of being a felon in possession of ammunition, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $35,000.

Then just before 9 p.m., deputies were called to the 57300 block of 29 Palms Highway in Yucca Valley because a man, later identified as Alexander Schaefer, 24, of Yucca Valley, was seen taking a black handgun from his waistband and walking in an alley behind a gas station.  A deputy located Schaefer near Pueblo Trail and Condalia Avenue and determined the gun was a BB gun, but the deputy also found several knives that were easily accessible. Alexander Schaefer was arrested for investigation of possession of a dangerous weapon, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $25,000.
