A suspect is in custody after the murder of a Twentynine Palms man in Wonder Valley Wednesday. According to Sheriff’s Homicide investigators, family members reported Bryon Calvert, 57, missing about 7:30 p.m. Friday. Calvert said he was doing an errand and then going to see a friend, but his friend said he never arrived and Calvert didn’t return home. Another family member reported seeing Calvert’s car being driven toward Palm Springs on Interstate 10 at a high rate of speed. Deputies and CHP officers located the vehicle at I-10 and Dillon Road in Indio. Driving the car was Bobby Collins, 42, of Wonder Valley.

Detectives learned that Calvert had recently started a relationship with Collins. Detectives served a search warrant on Collins’ home in the 4700 block of Gillespie Road and discovered Calvert’s body inside.

Bobby Collins was arrested for investigation of murder at about 11:30 Thursday morning. He was booked into the West Valley Detention Center with no bail set.
