HISTORIC TWENTYNINE PALMS INN ACQUIRES HISTORIC ROUGHLY MANOR

The historic Roughley Manor in Twentynine Palms, a bed-and-breakfast owned by Gary and Jan Peters for the past 21 years, has been sold to the owners of the 29 Palms Inn, Paul and Jane Smith and daughter Heidi Grunt. Roughley Manor was once the home of Twentynine Palms homesteaders Bill and Elizabeth Campbell, and composer Allie Wrubel, who composed the songs “Lady from 29 Palms” and “Zippity Doo Dah.” Gary Peters said the sale is effective the first of the year, and all events currently booked at the manor will not be affected by the sale. He added that the Smiths intend to run Roughley Manor—with its two rooms in the main house and 10 rooms scattered around the 22-acre property—as it currently is. The Peters will continue to live in Twentynine Palms after their retirement. The Roughley Manor was on the market for a little over a month and was listed at just under $1.4 million.
