BODY FOUND EAST OF TWENTYNINE PALMS IN AUGUST IDENTIFIED

The family of a 56-year-old Wonder Valley man who went missing in June has confirmed that his body was found in August. James Escalante, also known as Blackhawk, left his home June 25 on his bicycle to help a friend who had become stuck. When he couldn’t find her, he called his girlfriend, who was also friends with the woman. That was the last anyone heard from Escalante. On August 8, a man who was going shooting in the desert found a badly decomposed body on Shelton Road in Wonder Valley. Foul play is not suspected. On December 15, the coroner’s office notified the family, who live in South Carolina, that the remains were those of James Escalante. The family was hoping to wait until after the holidays to make his final arrangements, but the coroner told the family December 22 that due to COVID-19, the morgue is full and they needed to make his burial arrangements as soon as possible.
