Z107-7 RADIOTHON RAISES $12,000 FOR TWENTYNINE PALMS SELECT CHOIR

The Twentynine Palms High School Select choir benefitted from a successful radio-thon fund-raiser on Z107.7 Radio Saturday. Choir Director Michael Mayes explained the reason for the event, saying, “Choirs of America invited us to attend a unique conference with world-renowned clinicians and composers. In addition to performing, the conference includes educational workshops to introduce and expose the students to career opportunities as a professional working musician.” Twenty-seven students and chaperones will travel to Orlando, Florida April 19-23. To participate, the students needed to raise a total of $45,000 by January 31. The choir and its boosters have been conducting fund-raising, but needed one last boost to make their goal. The Z107.7 “Send Our Kids to Orlando” radio-thon raised about $12,000 between noon and 5:00 p.m. Saturday. Booster President Anita Clinkscales said the radio-thon proceeds put them very close to their goal and she expected additional donations to come in because of the broadcast.
