Z107.7 NEWS GETS TOP HONORS FROM THE RTNA

Z107.7 News was named as one of the top 3 Best small station radio news in Southern California at the 68th Annual Golden Mike Awards®, Saturday night in Universal City. The three nominees for Division B radio excellence were Z107.7 Joshua Tree. KABC-AM, Los Angles, and KCLU Thousand Oaks. The Golden Mike went to KABC. For television, Division A (large stations), KFMB in San Diego won the award for Best 60 Minute Newscast, and Los Angeles’ KNBC took home honors for Best 30 Minute Newscast and Best Daytime Newscast. KGET in Bakersfield won the Golden Mike for Division B (small division) Best 60 Minute Newscast. KMIR in Palm Springs won for Best 30 Minute Newscast in Division B. KNX in Los Angeles won the Golden Mike for Best Radio Newscast 15 Minutes or Longer, while KFI won for Best Newscast Less Than 15 Minutes. Three veteran Southern California broadcast journalists were honored with lifetime achievement awards: Chuck Henry, an award-winning anchor at KNBC, Christine Devine, anchor at KTTV/Fox 11 in Los Angeles, and Dave Lopez, reporter at KCBS/KCAL in Los Angeles. The RTNA presented its 2018 Freedom of Information Award to Dr. Bill Patzert of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The Golden Mike Awards are presented each year by the RTNA, a nonprofit organization representing broadcast news professionals throughout Southern California.
