The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball team opened the 2021-22 season with a 74-34 victory over J.W. North High School. The contest was a first-round game at the Raincross Preseason basketball tournament hosted by Poly High School in Riverside on Monday (November 15) evening. The Lady Trojans led 36-17 at halftime as they began defense of the tournament championship they won when the tournament was last held in 2019. Junior Malia Ulery scored a game-high 26 points. She was followed by a balanced attack with sophomore Cadance Tarrant netting 18 points, senior Maliah Rodriguez chipping in 10 points and 6 assists while senior Heather Hiday added 9 points.
The Lady Trojan basketball picked up their second win in as many nights with a 67-48 victory in the second round of the Raincross Tournament at Poly High School in Riverside on Tuesday (November 16) night. Junior Malia Ulery paced the team with 23 points while sophomore Cadance Tarrant knocked in 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Senior Lili Rodriguez also notched double-figure scoring with 4 three-point baskets and 16 points as the Yucca girls moved to 2-0 on the season. The team plays tournament host Riverside Poly Thursday night in the tournament semifinals with game time at 6:15 p.m.
