The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojan basketball team used a strong first half to claim a 59-42 CIF Division 3AA first-round playoff win over Lancaster High School Saturday (February 12) night in Trojan Gym.
The Lady Trojans jumped out to a 33-18 first-half lead despite having two starters in foul trouble forcing the team to rely on their bench to hold the lead.
Junior Malia Ulery was a force on both ends of the court and finished with a game-high 24 points. Sophomore Cadence Tarrant controlled the inside game pulling down 13 rebounds and netting 15 points. Senior Maliah Rodriguez knocked down 4 three-point baskets for her 12 points while junior Ashley Lowe hit 2 three-point buckets for her 6 points. Senior Heather Hiday scored 2 points to finish the scoring.
The team next plays the Riverside Poly High School Bears in a second-round CIF playoff game in Trojan Gym on Wednesday (February 16) night. Game time is tentatively scheduled for 6 p.m.
